Small Business Saturday Announces Inverclyde Leg of UK Tour to Help Growing Businesses

Riverside Inverclyde (Ri), the organisation charged with delivering the economic development of Inverclyde in the west of Scotland, has teamed up with Small Business Saturday UK to bring a stage of its UK bus tour to Gourock.

Small Business Saturday UK is a nationwide campaign to support and promote the UK’s 5.7 million small businesses and has an annual tour across the country to spotlight and support the nation’s top growth businesses.

Now in its sixth year, the Small Business Saturday campaign bus will travel over 3,000 miles across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, visiting 30 locations over 25 days.

The Small Business Saturday UK campaign bus will visit Kempock Street in Gourock between 4pm and 5pm on Tuesday 30 October and will be offering free mentoring sessions to small businesses, including mentors from bus tour supporter Xero’s network of small business accountants, plus many more.

Michelle Ovens MBE, Director, Small Business Saturday, said:

“From Birkenhead to Belfast, Gourock to Carmarthen, The Small Business Saturday bus will travel the country to celebrate the UK’s fantastic growing businesses and shine a spotlight on their success.

“This tour is a way for us to give back to businesses at the heart of communities – celebrating them, championing them and providing a listening ear and a chance for mentoring.

“The tour is not just open to businesses, it’s open to everyone – every individual who can take a moment to appreciate the far-reaching impact small businesses have on their community.”

The Small Business Saturday Bus Tour is an important part of the official countdown to Small Business Saturday, taking place this year on 1 December 2018.

It follows the recent launch of the UK’s Small Biz 100 – a daily celebration of 2018’s top small businesses from across the UK which includes Greenock based social enterprise, Trade Right International, who was chosen from thousands of entries for their social business model, fair trade ethics, and luxurious Shea Butter skincare range – Carishea.

Trade Right International’s CEO, Trevor Gregory said:

“We are privileged and honoured to have been chosen as one of the UK-wide recognised 100 small businesses by the Small Business Saturday campaign.  Our promotional day for the SmallBIZ 100 is on 30 October, the same day the bus tour visits Inverclyde.

“We have already noticed an increased interest in our natural skincare services and we’re hoping our own brand, Carishea will become increasingly recognised nationally.”

Ronnie Cowan, MP for Inverclyde said:

“I’m pleased to learn the Small Business Saturday bus tour is coming to Inverclyde.  This is something I’ve been campaigning to happen for the past few years.  Through working in collaboration with Riverside Inverclyde, we’ve managed to secure the bus this year.

“Small Business Saturday is an important day, in December, when we recognise and support the work undertaken by businesses in our area.  Inverclyde is no different and I’m delighted that Trade Right International has been recognised by the UK Government for their work."

Andrew Bowman, Head of Business Investment at Ri said:

“We are delighted to be able to secure a visit from the national campaign bus to help shine a light on the excellent independent small businesses in Gourock.”

“With Gourock being the number one Scottish town for independent retailers, we would like to encourage people to come and visit the bus as well as support Inverclyde businesses by shopping local, particularly on 1 December 2018.”

To celebrate its recognition, Carishea is offering a 10% website discount with the code SmallBIZ100 – click here to view the full range.
