Greenlight Environmental at Risk Of Administration

Greenlight Environmental, a social enterprise which provides recycling services to Inverclyde Council as well as to West Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute Councils, has issued staff with redundancy notices due to the threat of administration.  GMB Scotland, the union for refuse and recycling workers, says the social enterprise is understood to be in crisis due to a loss of contracts from West Dunbartonshire.

Inverclyde Council Insists Inchgreen Dry Dock Redevelopment Is Still On Track

Municipal Buildings bosses insist the redevelopment of Inchgreen Dry Dock is still on track despite plans for for a £10m renewable energy hub being dead in the water. Inverclyde Council says it is confident that it will still be able to take advantage of UK and Scottish government City Deal funding to breathe new life into the historic maritime site.

Cambridge Weight Plan Expands Into Scarlow House Business Centre

Cambridge Weight Plan, the flexible weight loss programme provider for women and men, has announced an expansion into Scarlow House Business Centre in Port Glasgow. Following an increase in interest in the wide range of support available, the independent consultancy is the latest tenant to sign up with regeneration company Riverside Inverclyde, taking one of the business suites at Scarlow House

Online Petition Launched To Prevent RBS Shutting Down Final Inverclyde Branch

A campaign has been launched to try and prevent RBS shutting down its last-remaining Inverclyde town centre branch. Local woman Jennifer Cardoo-Cabral, has set up an online petition to put pressure on bank chiefs to rethink their proposal to shut the Cathcart Street office in Greenock and open a replacement within the Mortgage Centre.

The cost of renting a property in Inverclyde is on the rise despite a UK-wide slowdown. The district is among the top 10 performing areas in Britain bucking the trend, according to a new study.

Exam Success For Inverclyde Pupils

Inverclyde's school pupils are celebrating another record year of exam results. The percentage of Fifth Year pupils gaining five or more Higher awards is the highest ever, and almost three out of every ten Sixth Year pupils – 29.5 per cent - achieved at least five Higher qualifications, a threefold rise over the last 11 years.

Gourock Building Converted Into A State-Of-The-Art Dance Studio

New life has been breathed into an empty Gourock building which has been converted into a state-of-the-art dance studio. The former ice cream factory and joiners' studio in Caledonia Crescent had been lying vacant for some time.

Gig On The Green Launch

Music fans will be bowled over by nearly 20 live acts at an upcoming Greenock Cricket Club festival.  Preparations are well under way for the eagerly-anticipated Gig on the Green at Glenpark on Sunday September 2.  Sixteen local bands and musicians have been confirmed so far and will perform across two stages in support of the club's biggest fundraiser of the year.

Greenock Ocean Terminal Plays Host To Cruise Ships Double

Greenock Ocean Terminal played host to two cruise ships yesterday. Viking Sky, made her first trip to the River Clyde and was joined alongside by Rotterdam. Both vessels left on Friday evening, with regular visitor Royal Princess calling on Saturday.

400 Years Of Food And Drink In Scotland Exhibition Across Inverclyde Libraries

Lifting The Lid, a free display telling the story of 400 years of food and drink in Scotland, is coming to Inverclyde Libraries. The National Library of Scotland exhibition will be at four local venues between August and October.

Inverclyde Pledge For A Tobacco-Free Scotland

The community planning partnership the Inverclyde Alliance has promised to help contribute to a tobacco-free Scotland.It has formally signed Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) Scotland’s Charter for a Tobacco-free Generation – an initiative to help reduce the harm caused by smoking and to deliver a tobacco-free generation by 2034.

Inverclyde's Triathlon On The Horizon

Inverclyde Leisure's triathlon takes place at Gourock Outdoor Pool and Fitness Gym on Sunday 19 August. There is an individual event, for up to 150 people, a team event (up to 24 teams), and a junior aquathlon (24 spaces for 10 to 17-year-olds).

Greenock Ballet Company To Take Centre Stage With Coppelia

Alba Ballet is returning to the Beacon, Greenock, in November with their latest production, the popular classical ballet Coppélia. Coppélia is a light-hearted ballet about Franz a village youth who becomes infatuated with a life-size dancing doll created by Dr. Coppélius, upsetting his true heart’s desire Swanhilda.

Inverclyde's MP Is Getting On His Bike Thanks To Active Travel Project

Pedal power is the way ahead for Inverclyde MP Ronnie Cowan after active travel project Community Tracks Inverclyde presented his team with three recycled bikes. Community Tracks is an Inverclyde Community Development Trust project which encourages Inverclyde residents to cycle and walk more for their everyday journeys.
