CMI Offshore Group’s Arrival In Port Glasgow Gives A Further Boost To Inverclyde’s Growing Marine Sector

Riverside Inverclyde has welcomed CMI Offshore Group (CMI), the owner and global operator of a 25-strong offshore fleet, to Scarlow House Business Centre in Port Glasgow. CMI currently has six members of staff working at nearby Ferguson Marine on the development of its Air Cushioned Barge (ACB) for NCOC in Kazakhstan.

Ferguson Marine Receive Prestigious Green Innovation Award

The world’s largest sustainability awards, Greentech Festival's 2019 Green Awards were held in Berlin last week and Ferguson Marine Engineering (FME) won ‘Innovation of the Year’ for their work on the ground-breaking project, HySeas III.

Greenock’s Historic Custom House Moves To Full Occupancy As It Welcomes Bright, New Architectural Practice

Riverside Inverclyde’s marquee Custom House property in Greenock has welcomed its newest tenant, a growing young architecture practice, and is now fully let. Nicholson McShane Architects (NMA) has taken the last remaining 650 sq ft at the Grade A-listed bulging, increasing space by 50% on the practice’s previous office accommodation.

Developers Say Bridge Upgrade Could Delay Works At Former Ravenscraig Hospital By Two Years

Link Housing Ltd, who were narrowly granted permission in March to go ahead with the social housing development on the contaminated land, had been told to upgrade a bridge over the railway line at the site before starting construction work. But the social housing landlords have returned to the board, arguing that this would mean a delay of up to two years.

The Cake Bar In Glasgow Is Three Sisters Bake's New Instagram- worthy Spot

Calling all cake lovers. Scotland’s famous baking siblings, Three Sisters Bake, has arrived on Great Western Road in Glasgow with a brand new ‘little sister’ store. The Cake Bar opened on 1st May at 201 Great Western Road, offering ice-cream sundaes, hot brownies, tray bakes and celebration cakes.

Beacon Bistro To Close

The Beacon Arts Centre has decided to close its bistro operation. Five employees have been advised that they will lose their jobs when the bistro operation ends on Friday 31 May 2019. Bar facilities will continue and will be staffed by casual workers.

Traffic Disruption Expected

Inverclyde Council has called on the national transport agency responsible for the trunk road network across Scotland to get its act together. The move comes after it was revealed that work on the A78 trunk road at Inverkip Road is going to be set at one way traffic lights just weeks after the agency agreed not to do this.

CVS Inverclyde Chief Executive To Leave

CVS Inverclyde Chief Executive, Ian Bruce, is to leave his position after nearly ten years at the helm to take up a new role as Chief Executive with Glasgow CVS (GCVS). Ian will take over from current Chief Executive Helen Macneil, who retires at the end of June.

Electric Bike-share Scheme Launch For Tenants

Inverclyde's first electric bike sharing scheme has been launched, for tenants of a local housing association. Active travel project Community Tracks Inverclyde and Cloch Housing Association, Greenock, are working together on the pilot initiative. Its hoped the service can be expanded to other groups.

Success For McCaskie's Butchers At Scotland Food And Drink Excellence Awards

Nigel Ovens, of Mearns T McCaskie, is celebrating success at the prestigious Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2019 in recognition of his unsmoked dry cure back bacon. The breakfast favourite was crowned best Scotch product at the event in Edinburgh on Thursday.

Employability Advisor Receives Top Award

Leeann Jenkinson, who works at West College Scotland, celebrated her 40th birthday in style after scooping the top award in the Support at Work category at the Scottish learning Disability Awards. Leeann last year helped local man Sean Devlin land his first job, working at the new Inverkip Community Hub.

In a double blow, both the flagship annual Gardenfest and ever-popular Port Glasgow Bulb Show have both been scrapped because of budget cuts with Inverclyde Council offering support for new operators.

Pupils Visit The New Chocolate Company

Pupils from Port Glasgow High School enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of The New Chocolate Company headquarters at Riverside Inverclyde’s Kelburn Business Park. The visit was part of the school’s Skills Academy, which aims to inspire pupils who have just finished their exams.

New Flag For James Watt Dock Marina As Schoolgirl Wins Competition

A schoolgirl is raising the standard at a historic Greenock Harbour - after winning an Inverclyde-wide flag design competition. Sophie Baker, a pupil at St John's Primary in Port Glasgow, had her nautical-themed ensign chosen from almost 300 entries to fly at the entrance to James Watt Dock Marina.

Great Get-together In June 2019

Community groups are being urged to ‘get together’ as part of a celebration of the life of Jo Cox MP. For, Inverclyde Council is supporting the ‘Great Get Together’ on 21 – 23 June 2019 and is offering to fund to local groups and residents hosting events that weekend.

Inverclyde Launches Scotland’s First Autism Friendly Library Service

Local autism awareness campaigner, Laura Graham, has given Inverclyde Council’s her seal of approval after it set up Scotland’s first autism-friendly library service as part of its Au-some libraries project. The project is intended to provide children and adults, who are on the Autistic spectrum, with a calm, quiet place to relax and enjoy books, reading and other activities.

Amazon Gourock Gift To Inverkip School

Inverkip Primary School has received a donation of £500, water bottles, lanyards and pens from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Gourock. The donation was delivered to the pupils by members of the Amazon team during a recent assembly which also celebrated the recent achievements of the athletics team.

THE CÒIG | The Shiel Workshop and Tourism Business Seminar -  6 June 2019 - Free

The Còig project is an exciting new tourism route initiative for Ayrshire, Firth of Clyde and the Clyde Islands created with the aim of promoting business growth and raising awareness of these areas to a global audience.

The Heritage Workshop is for historical, heritage and cultural groups and individuals. This workshop is designed to help identify points of historical interest and to share local knowledge and information about these locations with visitors to The Còig. This workshop runs from 10.00am to 12.00 noon with all interested parties are welcome to join.

The Còig Business Seminar is for tourism-related businesses and tourism group members. This seminar explains in detail the membership benefits of The Còig and how to make the most out of the website and the Mobile App. The Seminar runs from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.
